Life was not meant to be easy - but it can be beautiful. I have found some solace in poetry and music. Love, life and relationships are hard work. Orwell said that ignorance is bliss, but I prefer to be informed about the ghastly truth, as I think you do too. I always considered you the best of the ULC and was equally insulted and flattered when you called me the 'champion of the left' on campus. The venal and incompetent inhabit all of the political spectrum; left, right, whatever. Unfounded optimism is one way of dealing with it all. Works for me so far...
